Proceeds Given to Charity…From the Director…

Since 2005, I have been directing the musicals at West and early on decided that I wanted it to be a learning experience for all involved. Most importantly, I wanted the students to recognize that theatre is not just a place for themselves to shine as stars, but also that theatre can be used to help others in the community. West’s drama club has taken on the persona of kids donating to charities in our community. Each year the students and adults are asked to research different local charities, present their ideas to the cast, crew, and adult staff, and then all drama club members and staff vote on the charity for the year. As we are finishing our journey for the 2018 musical Beauty and the Beast Jr., I want to share with you that in the past 13 years, the Perkiomen Valley Middle School West Drama Club has donated a total of $61,600.00 to local charities. We have donated to the following organizations: Make-A-Wish Foundation, Montgomery County SPCA, Schwenksville Library, Project Linus, PVMS-West Beautification Fund, the PVMS-West Green Team, Happy 2 Be Home, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and also began a $500.00 scholarship awarded to a PV High School Senior. I am so proud of the work the West Drama Club has done for this community. Although we have all learned many lessons through the process of working together to create grandiose productions, the greatest lesson learned is the joy and pride one feels when being able to help others.

Princess and Prince Tea – Hosted prior to Sunday Matinee

We are hosting a Princess and Prince Tea this year in the cafeteria prior to the Sunday matinee. The tea will be from 12:30-1:30. A ticket for the tea is $8. This ticket includes the child and one accompanying adult (over 18). There will be cupcakes, cookies, snacks, and drinks. Each child will receive a bag with crafts to do during the tea and to take to the show. There will also be some surprise character visitors from the musical for pictures and mingling with the children before the show. These tickets are limited.

Pictures with the cast onstage will still be available for a free will donation after each performance, so dress up as your favorite princess or prince!

Hope to see you there!
