Mrs. Milligan
Dear West families,

I hope this update finds you doing well as the month of October comes to a close.  Our first marking period concludes on November 2nd, and report cards will be available electronically after noon on the 9th.  In addition, parent/teacher conferences are scheduled for November 19th (day and evening) and November 20th (day).

Please see below for a variety of items that will keep you informed about district and/or MS West events and opportunities.

Printed Report Cards, Etc. – Although our schools no longer print report cards for all students, if you would like to request a print copy, simply email a MS West secretary, Mrs. Dickey (cdickey@pvsd.org) or Mrs. Sitron (csitron@pvsd.org), and one will be furnished for you/sent home with your child.  (Please let our secretaries know if you need any school resources/materials in print form.)

New News:

Fall Activity Night - coming soon! Please see your email for more information.

Red Ribbon Week –  This past week, the students and staff of PVMSW observed Red Ribbon Week, a national campaign that encourages people and communities to take a stand against drugs.  The West community participated in various spirit days to signify their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle. The front hallway of our school is now adorned with student pledges to grow up safe, healthy, and drug-free. Please click here for more information about Red Ribbon Week.

Box Tops Contest Winner – Congratulations to Mr. Murphy’s Homeroom on being Home and School's first Box Tops contest winner of the school year! Your class collected 471 Box Tops (of the total 3,479 that were collected) and has won a Philly Pretzel party.  Honorable mention - Mrs. Herzog, 344 Box Tops; and Mrs. Griffin, 332 Box Tops!

American Education Week – Nov. 12-16, 2018 - American Education Week is a celebration of public education and the people who contribute to our students’ success. Please join us in this celebration by making plans to stop by one of our schools on Parent Visitation Day. All of our schools will be welcoming parents to visit on Wednesday, Nov. 14th (Elementary Schools: 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Middle Schools and High School: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.)  A few notes for parents:  We cannot make accommodations for parents to eat lunch or attend recess with their children.  Volunteer clearances are not necessary to visit on this day, but you will need to be prepared to show your driver’s license when you sign in at your child’s school.  Please do not bring younger siblings along for the visit. Please be respectful of student privacy issues and refrain from capturing photos/ video during your visit.

Parent/Teacher Conferences - Parent/teacher conferences will be offered on Monday, November 19th, and Tuesday, November 20th.  Middle school conferences offer parents/guardians the opportunity to meet with their child's instructional team.  Please know that conferences are not mandated, but our staff will be available on these two days to engage in conversations about a child's progress.  Likewise, if a team feels the need to meet with parents, a conference may also be initiated by the team of teachers. We will be using SignUp.com to schedule conferences this year, and next week's Principal's Report will include links to access the teams' schedules for signing up.

Future Transition Event - Eighth grade will begin the High School Transition process beginning on January 14, 2019.  From 8:00 to 8:45 A.M., Joe Paddock, one of the North MontCo Technical Career Center counselors, will present information and options for application and attendance at NMTCC.  If a student is interested in the possibility of attending, they will be presented with an application. Completion of the application does not guarantee that a student will be accepted into the program of his/her choice.  Completion of the application is only an indication that student and parent are open to the possibility of NMTCC as a HS option. West students who return their applications will be taking a trip to NMTCC on January 28, 2019 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.  The NMTCC Open House is scheduled for February 14th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. which is a wonderful opportunity to enhance parents’ knowledge of the programs available to our students.

from Mrs. Lind –

Nurse’s Notes:  Just a friendly reminder that 6th grade students require a physical examination and updated immunizations if necessary, and 7th grade students require a dental examination. If your child has had these examinations recently, please be sure to send a copy in to the Nurse's office so your child's health record can be updated.   Please don't hesitate to reach out to the school nurse if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child. Mrs. Lind can be reached at 484-977-7210 ext. 4. or emailed at clind@pvsd.org.

Walk for West - A big thank you to all of our West families.  We raised $5,034.50 for our Walk for West, over $1,200 on Kidstuff Books, and collected 3,479 Box Tops!  Your generosity will allow us to continue helping all of the students in school have exceptional guest speakers, educational field trips, fun Activity Nights, and much more.   THANK YOU!

We hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween.  (West neither encourages nor discourages dressing up for Halloween.  If students do choose to dress up, please, no masks, heavy/gory makeup, or props of any kind.  Costumes may not infringe upon safety or instruction/participation in any/all classes.)

Join us for our next meeting on November 26th at 7:00 p.m. in the library to learn about the events that we are hosting after the holiday break.
