Dear PVMS West Families,

I hope everyone has had a good week.  West has been busy with many events, including two class trips, and next week will bring even more activities!  Please see the informational items below for more details.

New News:

Eighth-grade Dance – This is a very special event for our eighth-grade students. Many of the students refer to this dance as a "formal,” but we dissuade students from the term "formal" as there is only one true formal, the Prom. In terms of dress, we encourage students to dress as they would for a school photo.  Collars on the boys are appreciated but they are not required. Dresses for girls are welcome, but blouses and slacks are acceptable. Dresses should have a modest neckline, and we will not permit dresses with "cut-outs.” (Shrugs can be a wise accessory.) Students who arrive in cut out dresses will be sent home to change.

Regarding transportation, we do not permit limousines. If a student arrives in a limousine, we will send the limousine home with the students.

Finally, we will be encouraging students to come in groups as we downplay the potential "date" aspect of this dance.

I trust that these expectations provide parents with timely information as this event approaches. We work very hard to make this a special event while keeping it appropriate for the grade level. Each year students and faculty alike have a wonderful time. Please contact the West office with any questions.

Fifth-grade Parents’ Night - On Tuesday, June 5, 2018, Perkiomen Valley Middle School East and West are sponsoring a Fifth-Grade Parents’ Night in each school’s respective auditorium from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.  The purpose of this forum is to provide fifth-grade parents the opportunity to learn about the sixth-grade program at the middle schools. Our schools’ guidance counselors and administrators will be on hand to welcome you to the Perkiomen Valley Middle School community and begin/continue your orientation as a parent of a middle-level learner.

While the June 5th meeting is intended for parents/guardians, please reserve August 23, 2018 on your calendar for 6th Grade Orientation Night/Meet The Teacher Night(formerly known as Jitters Night) for all incoming sixth-graders and new students, together with their parents.

Lunch Accounts - Students must have money available in their lunch

accounts to purchase items from the cafeteria.  Please be sure to check account balances and ensure that your child has funds if he/she is buying lunch or items for the remainder of the school year.

Library Books and Materials Are Now Overdue! Overdue notices have been delivered, and students have been asked to take care of their fines as soon as possible!

Not Returning to PVMS West? – Please click here to download the document to complete and return if you are moving out of the PVMS West/PVSD area.  This information will assist us with scheduling for the coming school year.

Jump Start - Once the last day of elementary school comes to a close, middle school becomes less of an idea and more of a reality, and that can be daunting to some! Jump Start offers a way for students transitioning from elementary to middle school life to learn more about what’s in store for the coming school year. Camps will be held at both Middle School East and Middle School West, and they will include the following activities for rising sixth-graders:  Get-to-know-you Activities, Building Tours, Locker relays, Meet the Principal, Computer Games, Mathematics and Language Arts, Advice for Organization and School Supplies, and an Introduction to School Activities and Clubs.

Students will have the chance each day to ask questions about middle school. For example: “What happens if I’m late to class?” or “What happens if I miss the bus?” These questions and more will be a part of the Jump Start experience, which is meant to help students make a smooth transition to middle school.  STUDENTS SHOULD BRING PAPER, PENCILS AND A SNACK TO CAMP EACH DAY. Dates: Monday to Thursday, July 23-26. Facilitators: Colin Black and Darren Thompson. Cost: $110 per student. Times: 8 to 11:45 a.m. at West or 12:30 to 4:15 p.m. at East. Register online at https://perkiomen.revtrak.net/ (2.49% service charge applied), or complete the registration form below and mail it along with your check, payable to PVSD, 3 Iron Bridge Drive, Collegeville, PA 19426, Attn: Candice Love, Community Education. SPACE IS LIMITED TO 30 STUDENTS PER BUILDING.

Yearbooks - The yearbooks are coming! The PVMS West 2018 yearbooks will be distributed on Wednesday, June 6th! Copies of the Junior Voyager will be available for purchase on June 6th- 8th in the main lobby during homeroom; the cost is $30.00 cash or check made out to PVMS West. Quantities are limited.  (A reminder to all students: Please refrain from defacing or writing inappropriate material in others’ yearbooks. Offenders will be required to purchase and replace vandalized yearbooks. Thank you.)

from the Nurse’s office:

Parents of Sixth-grade Students:  Sixth-grade students require the Tdap and Meningitis vaccinations prior to the start of seventh grade.  Please utilize this time and the summer months ahead to make sure your child is up to date on all vaccinations prior to the beginning of the next school year.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding this, please don't hesitate to contact our school nurse, Mrs. Lind, at 484-977-7210 ext. 4, or email her at clind@pvsd.org.  Your attention to this is much appreciated.

End-of-Year Medication Pick Up - Please remember to obtain your child’s medication from the nurse’s office no later than student dismissal time on June 13th. As per the PVSD Medication Procedure, students are not permitted to carry their own medication. Any unclaimed medication will be destroyed after dismissal. Please contact the nurse if you have any questions.  If your child will require medication next school year (2018-2019), a new medication must be provided along with a Medication Permission form complete with a Physician’s signature.
