Dear PVMS West Families,

I hope this email finds you doing well as we head into the weekend.  We are beginning our middle school-to-high school transition process for our eighth graders.  Please click on Mrs. Milligan’s Reminders link below to see the table document (Feb. 12-28) that outlines both the steps as well as the timeline.  Additional informational items are included below.

New News:


MS West Winter Dance Admission is $5.00.  Students may choose to bring additional money for drinks and snacks.  Please arrange a pick-up location with your child. Carpooling as well as a prompt pick up are always encouraged and appreciated.  (Students must be in school on the day of an evening activity in order to attend that activity.) MAP Winter Progress Reports – We will be sending these mid-year (Reading and Mathematics) progress reports home with your child on Feb. 14, 2019.


NMTCC Open House is scheduled for February 14th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. which is a wonderful opportunity to enhance parents’ knowledge of the programs available to our eighth-grade students. Click here to see the flyer with more details.


Vector 3 and Trimester 2 End soon – Vector 3 ends on 2/15/19, and Trimester 2 ends 3/8/19.  Please communicate with your child’s vector teachers if you have any questions or concerns about his/her academic progress/grades.


Ski Club – West’s Ski and Snowboard Club has skied twice this winter. We currently have one more trip scheduled, and seats are available. This club is a great way to enjoy the winter weather with friends. The club is open to all grades, ski or snowboard experience is necessary. Informational packets are available in the main office. If you have questions you may contact Mrs. Sabol (dsabol@pvsd.org) or Mrs. Doran (ddoran@pvsd.org).


Eighth-grade Parent Orientation - Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the PVHS auditorium. This is an opportunity for parents to gather information on curriculum and program planning at the high school. Parents will be able to speak with high school teachers about course offerings for incoming ninth-grade students.


Informational Meeting about Advanced Placement (AP) Courses - For Parents and Students in grades 8-11 who are considering taking an AP Course(s) for the first time next year. This meeting will take place on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. in the PVHS auditorium.

Rescheduled - NAEP – The date of the NAEP (Reading and Mathematics) assessment has been rescheduled for Feb. 25, 2019.


Ice Cream Social - The High School Viking Buddies Club is hosting an Ice Cream Social for our secondary special education students and their families.  The social offers our students and families an opportunity to socialize outside of school, support the transition of our students from middle school to high school, and learn more about the Viking Buddies club at the High School. We hope you will consider attending the event! Please see your email for details.

Vaping Information -  Middle school-age children are often curious about vaping.  Please reference this resource from Montgomery County’s Office of Drug and Alcohol; it is an excellent supplement for family discussions.  A Vaping Toolkit -www.montcopa.org/vapingtoolkit.
