Mrs. Milligan, Principal
Dear West Families,

Monday is Read Across America Day, also known as Dr. Seuss Day, is a yearly observance in the USA inaugurated by the NEA, National Education Association.  (It is held on the school day that is nearest to March 2nd, Dr Seuss’ birthday.) All ages can celebrate by reading, Reading, READING!

Did you know that students who read twenty-minutes a day, 3,600 minutes, 1,800,000 words will have read the equivalent of sixty whole school days?  Students who follow a disciplined reading regimen have better vocabularies, stronger comprehension and writing skills, AND many score as high as the 90th percentile!

 New News:

Entertainment News:  Jazz Band Competitions - coming soon around the area. See your email for details.  The Jazz Band would love to see some West-friends in the audience!

Attention all students, to help keep our computer systems secure, you will be required to change your password on Monday, March 2nd. Your new password must be at least eight characters long, use upper and lower case letters, and it should include a number and or symbol. You may not use your name, username, or student ID number in your password.  Students will be assisted through the change process.

Resource Expo at PVHS - Please join us for the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit Resource Expo Fair on Thursday, March 26, 2020, from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm at the PV High School Cafeteria.  The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is pleased to present an evening of resources for families, educators, and students. As many as fifty vendors will be on hand to discuss supports for students with disabilities, their families, and educators. (Click here to see the flyer.)

Work at PV as a Substitute Aide! Looking to take your involvement with the district to the next level? Submit your application as a Substitute Teacher Aide and spend your days providing meaningful service to students and staff in our schools. No formal teaching experience is required, just a willingness to work with students of all ages and abilities thoughout the district.  from Mrs. LindNurse’s Notes:

If you are still planning on sending in a dental form, please do so at your next convenience.

Please be reminded that sixth-grade physicals (along with updated immunizations needed to enter seventh grade) are still being accepted in the nurse’s office.  The school physician will be here in the spring, and if your child hasn’t turned in his/her physical by that time, he or she will be seen by Dr. Brosius. If you have any questions regarding these requirements, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Lind, 484-977-7210 or email clind@pvsd.org.  Thank you for your attention to this!

Please be reminded that ALL medication should accompany the proper Medication Permission Form that can be found on the PV Website under Parents/Forms.  Medication must be brought into the nurse’s office in the original labeled container. If you have questions regarding this policy, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Lind.  This policy is in place to protect your children and keep them safe.

from Home and School:  Mark your calendars now for our next meeting on March 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the school library.

from Food Service:  The Food Service Department would like to call your attention to its newly revised cafeteria charge policy. The policy offers some clarity regarding school meal charging and cafeteria account collections. You may view it in its entirety online:

The policy was updated to ensure that students with negative balances are not denied reimbursable meals or publicly identified in any way. Another important update is the notification process that will occur when a student has a negative balance in his or her lunch account. Emails will be sent weekly to parents/guardians when there is a negative account balance, or letters will be sent home if a parent/guardian has no email address.

When the negative balance exceeds $50, Food Service staff will contact the parent/guardian by phone. Once the balance exceeds $100, the Business Department will contact the parent/guardian. The Superintendent’s Office will call if the negative balance exceeds $150.00.

Please note that parents/guardians are responsible for paying off the debt. If the debt is not paid, students may be placed on the debt list, which can affect their ability to participate in school events.
