Mrs. Milligan

Dear West Families,

Stuff-a-Bus, a Toys for Tots toy drive and activity night, was a great success!  The cost was $5.00 OR one new unwrapped toy (Students were encouraged to bring extra money for food/drinks, raffle tickets - if they wished.)

Stuff-a Bus Activities:  DJ, Chick-Fil-A, Brusters, hot chocolate/popcorn bars, stage events, and of course our famous pie the teacher in the face contest.

All proceeds benefited children in our local area. Thank you to everyone who supported this West tradition!  (The regional distribution center, serving all of PVSD’s municipalities, is the old Red Hill Fire Company building in Red Hill, PA.  Toys are distributed to families on the morning of December 21st.)

Laurel House Presentation:  Healthy Relationships (Grade 8 only) – Educators from Laurel House of Montgomery County will be coming to PV West on Tuesday, December 17th and Wednesday, December 18th to speak to the eighth-grade students in classrooms about healthy relationships.  Topics of discussion include:

The influence from media (social media, television shows, movies, etc.) on relationships

The importance of boundaries

Differences between healthy/unhealthy/abusive relationships

Warning signs of unhealthy relationships

Helping a friend in need

Identifying resources and safe people to turn to for help

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the topics to be presented, please contact Ryan Creeden at rcreeden@pvsd.org.

MS West’s Spelling Bee is scheduled for Friday, January 3, 2020 at 1:05 in the auditorium. If school is cancelled due to inclement weather, the snow date is Monday, January 6th.

West Ski and Snowboard Club is currently accepting permission slips for this season’s trips. Information packets are available in the main office. Contact info: Mrs. Lind clind@pvsd.org or Mrs. Doran ddoran@pvsd.org

from Home and School:

Our Spirit Wear order is in and you can come pick it up when it is convenient for you.  We will have another sale in the spring.

from Mrs. Muscatello:

Yearbooks on Sale - Pre-order your yearbooks now for only $28.00 at jostensyearbooks.com!  You can order your book online at jostensyearbooks.com, by phone, or through the mail. It is quick, easy and ends the hassle of bringing money to school. Please refer to the form you received in the mail for ordering and payment options.

from West’s Counseling Center:  Student/Family Support…

Future Transition Event - Eight grade will begin the High School Transition process beginning on January 17, 2020.  From 7:56 to 8:48 a.m., Joe Paddock, one of the North MontCo Technical Career Center counselors, will present information and options for application to NMTCC.  If a student is interested in the possibility of attending, he/she will be presented with an application. Completion of the application does not guarantee that a student will be accepted into the program of his/her choice.  Completion of the application is only an indication that student and parent are open to the possibility of NMTCC as a high school option. West students who return their applications will be taking a trip to NMTCC on January 24, 2020 from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m.  The NMTCC Open House – Feb. 6, 2020, 6:00-8:00 p.m. - is a wonderful opportunity to enhance parents’ knowledge of the programs available to our students.

Attendance Email:  Parents can use MSWAttendance@pvsd.org for any/all attendance emails.

from West’s Chromebook Service Center:  Chromebook Charging/Security:

Hotspots Available – PVSD is pleased to offer free hotspots to families without Internet access in the home as a way to support our anywhere/anytime learning.  Through a generous donation, we are making hotspots available to families so that all students can take advantage of the anywhere/anytime learning model. [A hotspot is a handheld device that provides wireless network connection to other devices – such as a phone, computer, or Chromebook – so students can access the Internet.  Free hotspots will be given to families based on income and/or need, and availability of devices (limited quantities are available). If your family qualifies for the free or reduced lunch program, you may complete a form and attach your notification letter as proof of need. If you do not qualify for the free or reduced lunch program, please complete the form and be sure to fill out the section that requests a brief summary of why you are requesting assistance.  All information will remain confidential.] https://drive.google.com/file/d/1a0H2qnRP6h20R7XNkB6SSxKj0io6VBDY/view

Chromebook Battery Life, Troubleshooting – We are noticing that some students’ Chromebook charges are not lasting through the academic day.  Please remind your student to 1) charge completely each and every evening, and 2) refrain from downloading music and/or gaming extensions. The librarian and library assistant are available to help students troubleshoot any/all battery life problems.  If your child loses a Chromebook charger or stylus (Chargers are $25 and a stylus is $22), he/she can purchase replacements at the library. Please send a check made payable to "Perkiomen Valley School District."

Students should still use their lockers for valuables (i.e. phones and Chromebooks), especially when their backpacks are left unattended, i.e. lunch, PE, sports, etc.

Lost and Found – Students have not been checking the gym/counseling center lost and founds for their missing items.  Please encourage your students to check both areas.

from Mrs. Lind - Nurse’s Notes:  Please know there is still time to send in your child’s sixth-grade physical along with any immunizations he or she may have had recently.  The school physician will be here in the spring, and if your child hasn’t turned in his/her physical by that time, he or she will be seen by Dr. Brosius.  Also, seventh-grade students require a dental form to be handed in to the nurse. If you have any questions regarding these requirements, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Lind, 484-977-7210 or email clind@pvsd.org.

A reminder to parents and guardians:  If you ever need clarification or assistance with anything mentioned in my reports or if you have general questions, please email (dmilligan@pvsd.org) or call (484-977-7210).  Our entire front office team will be happy to assist you!
