Mrs. Milligan
Dear PVMS West Families,

I hope that all are enjoying a fun, relaxing, and rejuvenating summer break.

West’s administration, faculty, and staff are all eagerly anticipating the opening of the 2019-2020 school year, and like our sister school, MS East, we are espousing the “Every Class, Every Day” theme, which will serve to promote the 1:1 initiative, inclusion, shared standards, engagement, intervention and enrichment activities, and positive school-wide interventions and supports.  We can’t wait to share all that we have learned this summer with our students, and we are looking forward to discovering each others' strengths, gifts, and interests throughout the school year.

The MS West community would like to welcome both new and returning faculty and staff members:  Physical Education, Melissa Burg; Element Science, Tunde Szilagyi and Amy Corr; Element Mathematics, Shannon McCloskey; Counseling, Kristin Hildreth; and Orchestra, Nadine Hoffman.

West would also like to thank both Kadie Smith and Rebecca Benz for their service to West students/families and our school/district; both ladies have relocated to other school districts.  As a result, Kate Yeager will transition to Titan mathematics, and Andrea Nehila will transition to Adventure/Journey mathematics. (We are working to secure Title I paraprofessional positions in both reading and mathematics.)

I do not want to forget to thank district's maintenance staff and West's amazing custodial staff (Sam, Michelle, Joe, Joe Jr., and Dan) for all of their hard work in cleaning and preparing our beautiful school!

Counseling Services - To promote our students’ mental health and overall wellbeing, West counselors will be offering both new and existing counseling groups based on a variety of student needs, such as, but not limited to: anxiety, depression, loss, anger, etc.  In addition, a Creative Health counselor visits MS West once a week to offer short-term sessions related to personal mental health support and/or drug and alcohol intervention services (self or family member). Finally, West would also like to welcome CFF, Child and Family Focus, who will be offering out-patient counseling services in our school.  (CFF accepts commercial insurance and will engage in conversations about co-pay with families prior to delivering services.) If you are interested in having your child participate in counseling groups, please contact your school counselor for more information/permission forms.

1:1 – West commits to the 1:1 computer initiative.  This school year, every West student will be provided with a Chromebook.  Reminder: There will be a 1:1 Parent Orientation on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Middle School East’s auditorium.

We are permitting all students to carry backpacks this school year.  With the new 1:1 initiative, our teachers are hoping to decrease what students will need to carry to/from home as well as from class to class.  Ultimately, we will be encouraging students to carry less and be more organized and efficient. As far as school supplies are concerned, we are encouraging only what families deem necessary for personal organization/personal preference.  Teachers may offer additional suggestions at our Meet the Teacher evening events.

Gym Uniforms – Neither middle school will be requiring the purchase of a specific school uniform; however, students must still bring appropriate athletic clothing (t-shirts and shorts of an appropriate length) and footwear (sneakers) as well as change for all physical education classes.  For those who are interested, West’s Home and School will be selling spirit wear two or three times this school year; more to come….

Please note that HAC opens tomorrow, 8/13/19, at noon.  If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s schedule, please contact the main office to speak with a counselor or administrator.

Looking forward to an exciting year of learning and growing, Every Class, Every Day, with your child/ren.

Warmest Regards,

Mrs. Donna Milligan,
