Dear PVMS West Families,

I hope this email finds you well as all begin Spring Break!  Enjoy your time with family and friends!

Spring Holiday -

          • April 17 (a full in-service day) through April 22nd.
          • School resumes and PSSA testing begins on April 23rd.

Reminders for All:

          • Please make sure your child gets a good night’s rest and eats a healthy breakfast.
          • Students may bring gum, mints, or hard candy (no lollipops) for testing so long as it is consumed silently during testing.  (Remember: There is still No gum or candy permitted outside of testing.)
          • No liquids (including water) are permitted near testing materials.
          • All backpacks must be stored in lockers.*

* An update re:  backpacks in school: When students return from spring break, we ask that they keep their backpacks in lockers daily for the remainder of the school year. We will continue to study the feedback that we have received from students and parents about the pro’s and con’s of carrying backpacks throughout the day. We will finalize a recommendation and share it with the middle school community prior to the start of the 2019-2020 school year.

  • Please be on time for testing.

  • No cell phones, smart watches, or electronic devices are permitted in testing locations.

  • Students should bring fiction books to read if they finish early.

Concerns about Testing and/or Test Anxiety – Please talk to your child’s teachers/team, a counselor, or an administrator.  Also, explore one or more of the following links for ideas regarding how best to support your child:

from Home and School –  PV West Home & School will be running its third and final Box Tops contest of the school year. It’s simple - just clip Box Tops off specially marked products and send them in with your student in an envelope or baggie marked with your homeroom teacher’s name.  Each homeroom teacher has a container in their classroom to put the Box Tops in. The homeroom class that collects the most Box Tops will receive a Philly soft pretzel party. So please send in your Box Tops! Every one counts! Since September we received $538.30. All Box Tops are due by Friday, May 3rd to be included in the contest. Click here to see the Box Tops flyer.

If you would like to help our school out even more, please register online at http://www.boxtops4education.com/. You can find additional sweepstakes to enter for our school, check on our school earnings and print coupons.

Finally, Home and School is searching for a new Box Tops coordinator for the 2019-2020 school year. If you are interested, please contact Karen Litak at thelitaks@gmail.com.  Thank you for your continued support!!

As we move into spring, it's time to start thinking about Home & School elections.  Every year, we elect four new board members to help shape and execute what the Home & School does the following year.  If you are interested in being on the H&S board for the 2019-20 school year, please contact Amy Butler at amyjpowers@hotmail.com.
