Mrs. Milligan, Principal
Dear West Parents/Guardians,

As we are dealing with this unprecedented global health crisis, I hope that you and your family are well.  Perkiomen Valley is a wonderful and caring community, so please do not hesitate to reach out to administration, school counselors or teachers/teams if you need anything.

With the recent announcement from Governor Wolf that schools across the state will remain closed “indefinitely” and that the “Stay at Home” order will be extended through April 30th, our district has decided to transition from learning enhancements, essentially review work, to new learning. Last week our faculty and all staff were busy preparing for this new direction of instruction, and we are excited to reengage with all of our students.  We truly miss them!

Today, teachers started posting assignments in their Google Classrooms.  (See the middle level schedule below.) We ask that you encourage your child/ren to check his/her/their school email each day as well as Google Classrooms for assignments to complete.  Please review Dr. Russell’s email from Friday (as well as past correspondence), and check the district’s website/social media for specific information regarding both accessing new learning and academic expectations.

West’s counselors will continue to be available to our students daily, and they plan to share updates periodically.  Students should reach out to their counselors with any counseling- and/or scheduling-related need(s).  Counseling newsletter link: https://www.smore.com/5xvmt

The Safe2Say tipline will remain active during the closure.  This tip line enables one to send anonymous tips to notify the proper authorities to any number of concerns, such as, but not limited to:  mental health concerns, personal safety, drugs/alcohol abuse, bullying and more.  There are several ways to report a concern: you can call 1-844-safe2say, go to the Safe2Say, or download the app.  Your tip will be forwarded to a dispatcher, and administrators and/or counselors will do their best to address the issue.  Don't forget, in an emergency, please call 911!

Also, during the school closure, MS West will continue to run SAP (our Student Assistance Program) meetings; West’s SAP team will continue to take referrals and provide connections for students and families.  The mission of the Pennsylvania Network for Student Assistance Services is to provide leadership for developing a safe and drug-free environment and mental health wellness in schools and communities across the commonwealth.  Please contact a school counselor for more information.

Please don’t forget that West is still here to help and support you and your student(s).  (Parent resources link: http://www.pvsd.org/curriculum-instruction/covid-19-learning-enhancements)  Please reach out to us through email.

Stay safe and be well!

Donna L. Milligan, Principal, PVMS West
